BRING YOUR OWN BAG

So for Christmas my sister-in-law gave me a bunch of reusable bags (I completely agree with bringing your own bags to the store however, I do not like to buy them they are like $1 and I know it only costs them .000005 to make) very good gift I might say!!!! So Saturday I brought my reusable bags in the the grocery store and told the check out girl I brought my own bag. She began bagging my groceries in plastic bags anyway. I assumed she did not hear me so I told her again. Um mam I brought my own bags you do not have to do that. So she took my groceries out of the bag and THREW THE BAG AWAY!!!!

AAAAhhh hello that defeats the purpose. I did not say anything because the little shit was already mad at me for bringing my own bag. So what do you do? Do you explain to the 16 year old that I do this so millions of plastic bags will not be in a land fill nor be suffocating poor dolphins in the ocean (I have to do little things like this to make up for my air conditioner being at 65 during the summer)....however I feel if I did try to explain she would not care just like I would not care when I was that age. Oh well I tried to bring my reusable bags to the Winn Dixie However I am sure it might take a couple more times of my excellent example before they catch on.

Yes, it is REALLY annoying to see them throw the bag away after you CLEARLY stated you have your own bags. I have learned to be VERY aggressive with the checkers and never stop stating "I have my own bags" until they have start bagging. Never mind, you have to repeat it every time they touch an item too. I also like to throw in some green guilt, "I am trying to do my part to eliminate unnecessary items from the landfills."
Bern, don't give me that mark-up BS about the bags. What is the mark up on your sunglasses, purse, jeans, and baby sheets? It is much more than $1.

In China they charge extra if you want a plastic bag. They should start doing it here. ~Molly
